For many Disneyland Paris regulars, the Sequoia Lodge is a hidden retreat. It is a mid range hotel, with many features of the top hotels but with a price more accommodating to most people’s budget. Set amongst the trees, this feels like a peaceful retreat compared to the hectic nature of the theme parks. The grounds are wonderful and often guests can be found wandering around, just taking in the peace and quiet.
However, this is a large resort with many additional buildings beyond the main building. Just after 3pm (check in time) many people can be found aimlessly walking around trying to find their rooms, given the sheer size of the place. It doesn’t take long for people to find their way and be charmed by the gentle but beautiful theming in their rooms.
This resort is all about relaxation and has a really calm atmosphere. Guests looking for strong Disney theming may be disappointed by this resort as it successfully recreates a mountain lodge retreat feel. However, after a stay here, many people regard this as their favourite on site hotel.
Rooms:
There are several different room types available, which can be quite confusing when booking a trip. Many people opt for a standard room but it is worth considering all the options as it can have a big impact on your stay.
Standard Room – These rooms consist of 2 double beds and typically sleep 4 people. Rooms are a good size with theming based on the Disney film Bambi. The rooms are aimed at impressing parents, with a high end hotel feel. Some guests are disappointed to find they are not based in the main building as many who book standard rooms are placed into the exterior buildings at the back of the resort.

Standard Room near Hotel facilities (formally Montana Room) – If being located in the main building is important to you, you should opt for a Montana room. There is no difference in the actual rooms from a standard room apart from its location close to the reception, bar and restaurant.
Standard Room near Hotel Facilities – Lakeside (formally Lakeside Room) – There is also the ability to upgrade to a lakeside view based again in the main building. Be warned, views of the parks can only be seen from the top floors so if you book these rooms, you will only be guaranteed a view of Lake Disney. The top floors are reserved for Golden Forest Club so views of the parks are unlikely.
Golden Forest Club Rooms and Suites (Lakeside Optional) – These rooms are the same as the standard rooms but come with a mini fridge and, more importantly, Club Level benefits. Staying in one of these rooms gives you access to benefits that regular guests do not receive.
Check in is made easier via a private check in desk with seating. You also receive a FastPass for each day of your visit, allowing you to skip the long lines on popular attractions.
As a Golden Forest Club guest you can enter the Golden Forest Club lounge. This is a private area in which you can get complimentary soft drinks and hot drinks. In the morning, they serve a hot buffet breakfast which you can go to without any reservations. Then in the afternoon, they serve snacks and treats which makes a perfect break from the parks.
You will pay a premium for Club level but for some, the benefits are worth the extra expense.
Golden Forest Suite – These rooms are a real step up from the standard rooms often boosting balconies, a sofa and dining table. These come will all of the benefits of the Golden Forest but you receive a Hotel FastPass. This will allow you to use the FastPass queue on any ride, as often as you like, whenever you like. This is a real luxury and this is certainly reflected in the high price of staying in a suite.
Dining:
Previously this hotel had 2 restaurants, one table service and one buffet restaurant. They are based across the corridor from each other. However, Disney has now scaled back to make all the dining options buffet, so guests on busy evenings are often spread across the 2 dining locations. The Hunter’s Grill is often used to refer to both restaurants these days. It serves breakfast and dinner every day.
The morning breakfast is a mixture of hot food and continental breakfast offerings. It is an all you can eat buffet that needs to be reserved when you book your room. The food is good but the price is steep for what you will receive and reflects the quantity of food you may consume rather than the quality. The continental is the same as you would find at the Santa Fe or Cheyenne, with the hot food being the major difference from the cheaper hotels. Due to demand, you need to book a time and early slots are hard to come by as many guests like to eat and get to the parks before opening time.
The evening is an all you can eat dinner buffet. The food here is very similar to what you will find in Plaza Gardens or the Chuck Wagon but is priced higher. Lovers of seafood and salad will enjoy the extensive range here but many will wonder why this is priced higher than the aforementioned restaurants. This is only available on the Plus Meal Plan but I am not convinced this is the best use of a voucher if you are on the Disney Dining Plan as the food quality is not on par with other Plus restaurants.
Fancy a drink beside a roaring open fire? Then the Redwood Bar and Lounge will be a great option for you. In winter, this is a magical location, especially if you can get the much sought after seats right in front of the fire. If you are feeling hungry, you can order snacks from the bar. If you are looking for an instagram moment, order a Glowtini, a cocktail served with glowing ice cubes. Although I’m not sure what will amaze you more, the glowing ice cubes or the price!
Recreation and Swimming Pool:
The main difference between the high and mid level hotels and the value hotels is access to a swimming pool. The Sequoia Lodge has a wonderful pool, which is not overly big but has nice theming and a great hot tub. The Hot tub is raised to allow you to keep an eye on the children playing in the pool below. At times a waterfall is created from the rocks, adding to the magic of the pool.
There is also an outdoor pool and during good weather, a door is opened linking the inside and outside pool. This is a real selling point but the downside is that it can make the inside pool feel cold.
Given all the snacks available at Disneyland Paris, you may enjoy using the gym to burn off some of those calories. A small but well equipped gym is available for guests to use during their stay.
